Woman killed after being hit by train

An elderly woman died after she was hit by a train in Joypurhat's Panchbibi upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Momesa Begum, 68, of the upazila's Bagzana (Masterpara) area.

Momesa left home early in the morning to take a walk near the railroads, said Arif Hossain, a ward member of Bagzana Union Parishad, quoting family members.

She died on the spot after she was hit by the Panchagarh-bound Banglabandha Intercity train, he added.

Police recovered her body and handed it over to her family members, said Moktar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police of Santahar GRP Station.
