Police constable run over by covered van in Bogura

A police constable died today after being run over by a covered van on Bogura-Dhaka highway in Jamunapara area of Bogura's Sherpur upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md Rashedul Islam (25), son of Rezaul Karim. Rashedul was a police constable working at Sirajganj district jail, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting police.

Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, Rozibul Islam, sub-inspector of Sherpur Highway Police Outpost, said that Rashedul was on his way to Sirajganj from Sherpur to join work this morning. When he reached Jamunapara area, a covered van hit his motorcycle from behind, causing him to fall on the road. The police constable was then run over by the covered van, leaving him dead on the spot.

His body is being kept in the morgue of Bogura's Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College for autopsy, the SI said.

"We seized the covered van, but the driver and helper escaped. Preparations are being made to file a case in this regard," the SI added.
