Two motorcycles and a covered van were pulled out from the water as Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) started rescue operation in Padma river this morning for the fourth consecutive day.

On Wednesday, ferry Shah Amanat tipped over with 18 vehicles, including trucks and covered vans near Manikganj's Paturia Terminal.

BIWTA started the operation at 8am today and recovered the three vehicles till 11am, reports our Manikganj correspondent.

Rescue vessel Hamza that went to the spot from Shimulia joined the salvage operation around 10am.

On the other hand, another rescue vessel Rustam is working to pull out four trucks and a covered van off the water. Those were kept in half-sunken condition on the bank of the Padma earlier.

Of the vehicles, 16 were salvaged till this morning.

BIWTA Director Fazlur Rahman, who is leading the operation, said they will be able to recover all the sunken vehicles by today.

Later, they will start work to salvage the half-sunken ferry but for that a private rescue vessel is likely to be engaged, he said.

Yesterday, BIWTA Chairmman Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq said that they do not have the capacity to pull it out.
