Mother, son run over by pick-up van in Barguna

A woman and her son were run over by a pick-up van on Patuakhali-Kuakata Highway in Barguna's Amtali upazila this morning.

The deceased are Nur Nahar Begum (40) and her son Rakib (16) -- inhabitants of Chunkhali village.

The accident took place around 8:00am as the woman and her son were walking along the road to go to her father's house in nearby Amragachia village, said Dadan Mia, a sub-inspector of Amtali Police Station.

As a truck was coming from the opposite direction, the pick-up van driver tried to avoid a collision and ran them over -- leaving both dead.

The SI said they seized the van and detained its driver after the accident.
