Five killed in road accidents

Five people were killed and three injured in road accidents in two districts during the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Bagerhat, three youths were killed as their motorcycle hit a roadside electric pole in Mongla area on Wednesday night.

The deceased are Bayazid Hossain (23) from Mongla municipality, and Zakaria (22) and Mohammad Sakib (23) from Morelganj upazila.

The accident took place around 11:30pm when the three were returning from a fair in Chandpai.

They fell in a shrimp enclosure after the rider lost control over the motorbike and hit the electric pole, said OC Monirul Islam of Mongla Police Station.

Locals took them to Mongla Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead, he said.

An unnatural death case was filed and the bodies were handed over to their families.

In Thakurgaon, an elderly man died and his son sustained injuries, as a power tiller hit their motorbike from the opposite direction on Thakurgaon-Ruhea road in Duramari area yesterday.

Nurul Islam (65) from Kalibari in Thakurgaon municipality died on the spot, said OC Tanvirul Islam of Thakurgaon Police Station.

The injured -- Nabil Islam (13) – was undergoing treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, another motorcyclist Sujan Islam (17), son of Daymul Haque from Piagipara in Baliadangi uapzila, was killed and his two co-riders were injured, as a human haulier and their bike collided in front of Goalkari Government Primary School in Baliadangi upazila yesterday.
