Fire at Narayanganj food factory: 2 die after jumping from rooftop
Two women workers have died after jumping from the roof of a six-storey building when a fire broke out at a food factory in Narayanganj's Rupganj this evening.
Ten other workers were also injured while trying to leave the factory in a rush, reports our correspondent quoting Shah Alam, sub officer of Rupganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The deceased were identified as Shopna Rani, 45, wife of Jati Sarkar, hailing from Sylhet and Mina Akhter, 33, wife of Harun Mistry of Rupganj upazila.
The injured workers were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the fire official.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of Hashem Food and Beverage at around 7:00pm today and spread everywhere, he said, adding that 12 firefighting units of Rupganj Fire Service and Civil Denfence are working to douse the fire.
Quoting workers, the fire official said 20 workers are stuck on the rooftop of the building. He said they are working to evacuate the workers.
The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, he added.
