Three members of a family, including a child, were burnt in a fire followed by an explosion at a house in Dhaka's Jatrabari early today.

The injured are grocery shop owner Abdul Karim (30), his wife Khadija Akter (25), and their one-and-a-half year old daughter Fatema Akter.

They were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The incident happened around 3:00am on the ground floor of a four-storey building at Konapara area.

Mohammad Hasan, a neighbour of the family, said a fire erupted in the house following a loud bang when Khadija lighted the gas stove to cook sehri.

They ran out of their house but were burnt by this time, he said, adding that they found a fridge compressor exploded.

Karim, his wife and their child had 54, 95 and 35 percent burns respectively.

Karim has been kept in Hight Dependency Unit and the others in Intensive Care Unit, hospital sources said.

Condition of the injured are critical, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said quoting hospital sources.
