Family's Eid journey ends in tragedy
Three members of a family died and two others were injured as a three-wheeler turned upside down after being hit by a truck on Kushtia-Rajbari regional road during the early hours of today.
The deceased are Ismail Sheikh (35) of Charshadipur in Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila, his 14-year-old daughter Shikha Sheikh and five-year-old son Abdul Malek.
Injured Nazma Begum (30), Ismail's wife, and Ashraful Islam (37) were rushed to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex. Later, Ashraful was shifted to Kushtia General Hospital as his condition deteriorated this morning, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
Both Ismail and Nazma worked at a garment factory.
Raju, Ashraful's nephew, said his uncle and Ismail's family started from Dhaka's Gabtoli around 7:00am yesterday. After crossing Paturia-Dauladia route, they hired the auto-rickshaw for going to Kushtia to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with near and dear ones.
The accident took place in Pangsha Aziz Sardar bus stand area soon after midnight, Md Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Pangsha Highway Police Station, said.
On information, a team of fire service and civil defence rushed to the spot and conducted the rescue operation.
Ismail and his daughter died on the spot while his son died at a hospital.
