Diploma student killed in Darussalam road accident while returning from picnic

A diploma student, who was riding on the pillion of her friend's motorcycle, died as the vehicle skidded off road in Dhaka's Darussalam area early today.

Deceased Samanta Alam Juthi (19) was a second-year student of UCEP Institute of Science and Technology in the capital.

She was returning home on the bike of her classmate around 1:00am after coming back to Dhaka by bus from a picnic in Cumilla, said Aminul Islam, a sub-inspector of Darussalam Police Station.

The accident happened when the classmate lost control over the vehicle after a truck passed the motorcycle. Samanta was critically injured in the accident, the SI said. 

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead, Aminul said adding the classmate sustained minor injuries.

Hailed from Gopalganj, the girl used to live with her family in Mirpur Diabaria area.

The body was sent to DMCH morgue for autopsy.
