A 12-year-old boy was killed after a double-decker bus ran him over as he was helping his father to pull a van in Dhaka's Mohakhali area yesterday morning.

The deceased -- Md Roni, a madrasa student -- used to live at Sat Tola slum in the area.

As the boy was pushing the van from behind, under the Mohakhali flyover, a double-decker BRTC bus hit the van around 11:30am -- causing Roni to fall on the ground.

The double-decker later ran him over, said Waliullah, Roni's father, who survived with minor injuries.

Roni was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 12:45pm, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.

Police seized the bus and detained its driver Sohel Rana, said Mukhlesur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Banani Police Station.
