Fire Service and Civil Defence divers today recovered the body of another child who went missing after three children drowned while bathing in the Jhinai river in Jamalpur's Madarganj upazila yesterday.

The victim is Kulsum Akter, 8, of Char Bhattiani village. Her body was recovered this afternoon from Amtali area under Sidhuli union, said Delwar Hossain, leader of the Madarganj Fire Service diving team.

With this, the death toll from the tragic incident has risen to four, while another child, Boishakhi Akter, still remains missing.

Fire Service personnel are continuing the search operation to locate her, he added.

Saifullah Saif, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Model Police Station, yesterday said six children had gone to bathe in the river in the afternoon. One of them, Yasin, managed to swim ashore, while the others went missing.

Rescuers later recovered the bodies of Mariam Akter, 11, and her brother Abu Hossain, 7, of Char Bhattiani village; and Saiba Akter Norin, 9, of the Bausi area of Sarishabari upazila.

The search operation was suspended on Friday night and resumed the next morning, according to Fire Service.

OC Saifullah said police visited the spot soon after receiving the information.

"As the families did not file any complaints, the bodies were handed over without autopsy," the OC said, adding that police are investigating the incident.
