3 workers suffer burn injuries at Savar knitting factory

Three workers of a knitting factory in Savar suffered burn injuries after hot water fell on them this afternoon.

The injured are Md Helal (30), Ranjan (23), and Limon (24), said Jahangir Alam, senior station officer of the Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar.

They were being treated at East West Medical College and Hospital in Uttara of the capital. Of them, one was released after receiving primary treatment.

The incident occurred at the dyeing section of the factory located in Jamgora area around 4:45pm, the officer told our Savar correspondent.

Rafiqul Islam, a worker of the factory, said the victims were working in the factory this afternoon by opening the lid of the dyeing machine as the electricity went off.

He also said the workers were injured when the electricity returned again and the hot water from the dyeing machine fell on them. Among the injured, Ranjan's physical condition is said to be very critical.

Factory manager Miraz Ahmed told reporters that the workers were injured by hot water due to the trio's negligence. They were sent to the hospital, and the factory authorities will bear their treatment cost, he added.
