3 primary school students hit by train die in Cumilla

Three fifth graders were killed after being hit by a train in Bijoypur Cumilla South upazila of Cumilla district this morning.

The deceased -- Mim, Lima and Tasfia -- were the students of Bijoypur Government Primary School, reports our Cumilla correspondent.

Debasis Roy, officer-in-charge of Cumilla Sadar South Police Station, said the incident took place around 11:40am when they were on their way to school.

The girls noticed a Cumilla-bound train when they were crossing the railway tracks. But they were hit by another train coming from opposite direction and died on the spot, said Hazi Selim, a shopkeeper, who witnessed the incident.

Sadekur Rahman Bhuiyan, headmaster of the school, said the girls were coming to school from neighbouring Durgapur village to attend the classes in second-shift.
