20 injured as tourist bus plunges into ravine in Bandarban

Four in critical condition

At least 20 people were injured after a tourist bus lost control and plunged into a ravine in Bandarban’s Sadar upazila early today.

Of them, four suffered critical injuries. They are Milon Chandra Das, 26, Rimon Das, 27, Riad, 25, and Nafi Rizuian, 28.

The accident occurred around 4:30am in Suwalak area near the university zone of Bandarban.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a tourist bus operated by Saudia Paribahan was travelling from Dhaka to Bandarban with around 30 passengers on board.

When the bus reached Suwalak area near the university zone of Bandarban around 4:30am, it fell into the roadside ravine as its driver lost control of the vehicle, said Manna Dey, additional superintendent of police (Sadar Circle) in Bandarban.

Local residents, along with members of law enforcement agencies, rescued the injured passengers and took them to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

“Out of around 30 passengers, 20 were injured. They have been rescued and sent to the hospital. Four of them are in critical condition,” the police official said.

Dhiman Das, emergency medical officer at Bandarban Sadar Hospital, confirmed that four of the injured were referred to Chattogram for advanced treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
