Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono arrives in Dhaka today for a brief but important visit to Bangladesh to discuss economic cooperation and the Rohingya issue with top government officials.

Kono will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and assure them that Tokyo will further promote a comprehensive Japan-Bangladesh partnership and continue to fully support Bangladesh's development, said diplomatic sources.

This will be his second official visit to Bangladesh since his last one on November 19 last year.

Upon his arrival around noon from Myanmar, the minister is expected to visit the Holey Artisan Bakery building to pay tribute to the victims of the July 1, 2016 café attack.

Kono would hold a joint press briefing at the State Guesthouse Meghna, added the sources.
