International Committee for the Stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh (ICSPB), an organisation agitating for the rights of stranded Pakistanis, has said that a total of 300 million US dollar will be required to repatriate the Pakistanis who have been stranded in Bangladesh. A BBC report monitored yesterday night said Pakistan will appeal to the European Union (EU) for providing the amount. Sumit Sen, a researcher on international law at the London School of Economics told BBC that UNHCR is trying to solve the legal problems for repatriation of the stranded Pakistanis. "UNHCR wants that the stranded Pakistanis, after called as Biharis, should be formally declared as refugees to put pressure on Pakistan for bringing the Biharis back," he added. Sumit Sen also set aside the idea that the Biharis are "stateless" adding that Pakistan has the responsibility for the Biharis because they are citizens of Pakistan. At present, two lakhs and forty thousand stranded Pakistanis are living in different camps in Bangladesh.
