US Ambassador Dan W Mozena yesterday offered his cooperation to flower cultivators as he visited the country's largest flower farm in Jhikargachha upazila, Jessore. He said there were potentials in flower farming and that he would try to help address farmers' problems through discussions with the authorities concerned. The US envoy was invited by Channel i's "Hridoye Mati o Manush" programme to visit Jhikargachha's Godakhali, known as the country's capital of flower farming. Addressing a rally there, Channel i's Head of News Shykh Seraj highlighted the potentials and problems of flower cultivation, drew Mozena's attention for support, and mentioned the demands voiced by 22 organisations of flower growers and traders . He said there should be a modern flower processing facility and cold storage, a flower research centre in Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute and tissue culture lab for breeding of high quality species, and a central flower market in the capital, Dhaka. At least 500 flower cultivators and traders joined the rally, which was chaired by President of Bangladesh Flower Society Abdur Rahim. The US envoy was accompanied by USAID Bangladesh Mission Director Richard Greene and other officials, says a press release.
