Man murdered over land dispute

An elderly man was killed allegedly by neighbour over a piece of disputed land at Manfoler village in Sundarganj upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Dewan Ali, 70, of the village. Police and family sources said there was a longstanding conflict between Dewan and his neighbour Saifuddin over the land. As a sequel to the conflict, Saifuddin and his sons Ajit and Afzal stabbed Dewan indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot yesterday following an altercation over the issue. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Sundarganj police station in this connection. In another incident, at least six people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Kashdaha village in the same upazila on Monday. The injured were admitted to Sundarganj upazila health complex. Police said there was a longstanding conflict between one Bablu Mia and Sumon Mia of the village over taking control of five decimals of land. The supporters of the two groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving at least six from both sides injured following an altercation over the issue on Monday noon. Of the injured, Sumon was later shifted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
