Charge-sheeted accused beat up family of murder victim

Charge-sheeted accused of a murder case hacked and beat up mother, brother, sister and wife of the victim at Pukuria village in Kaliganj upazila under the district on Saturday afternoon. The brutal criminals also snatched his 18-month-old kid from his wife's lap and threw it to the ground. The injured -- Rahima Khatun, mother of the victim Ulfat Hossain, his younger brother Alfaj uddin, younger sister Aleya Khatun and wife Rahima Begum were admitted to Kaliganj local health complex. Rahima Begum filed a case with Kaliganj police station on Saturday evening. "On October 2 in 2012, Uzzal Hossain, Mukto Biswas, Torikul Islam, Razu Ahmed, Ershad Ali and Bablu Khan of Pukuria village seriously hacked Ulfat Hossain at his vegetable garden of Monohorpur village. Ulfat succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on November 10 and I filed a case with Jhenidah judicial magistrate's court the next day," goes the statement of the case filed by Rahima Begum. "On January 17 this year, Kaliganj police submitted a charge sheet to the court. But the accused, who are yet to be arrested, threatened us to oust from the village or kill if the case was not withdrawn. "And they hacked and beat up Ulfat's mother Rahima Khatun, brother Alfaj Uddin, sister Aleya Khatun and wife Rahima Begum on Saturday afternoon," the case statement added. Golam Rasul, chairman of Simla-Rokonpur union parishad, said, "The criminals are sheltered by Nasir Uddin, a deed writer and resident of Pukuria village, and secretary of a ward committee Awami League in this union. On information I went to the spot and informed police." Killed Ulfat's younger brother Alfaj Uddin told this correspondent, "After my brother's death, deed writer Nasir Uddin gave bricks, sand and some cash money for maintenance of the family and asked us to withdraw the case. But on Saturday afternoon they injured us and looted the bricks and sand. Nasir also created pressure on us to repay the amount he had given us. Earlier in December last year, the accused beat and threatened us to withdraw the case." Ulfat's wife Rahima Begum said, "Now I have to look after the family. But I feel helpless as police are yet to arrest the criminals. I request the higher authorities to save us from the killers of my husband."
