A local journalist and two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were seriously injured during a clash between the activists of BCL and JCD near Adarsha Degree College in Magura town yesterday noon. The victims are Abu Bashar Akhand, district correspondent of Masranga Television, also correspondent of The Daily Sakaler Khabor, Ripon Ahmed Jony, joint secretary of municipality unit of JCD, and Meer Suman, former joint secretary of district unit of BCL. Ripon Ahmed and Meer Suman were injured as activists of BCL and JCD equipped with sharp weapons and sticks locked in a clash for about 15 minutes from around 2:00pm, witnesses said. Ripon was seriously injured as BCL activists hacked him with sharp weapons, they added. On information, a police team rushed to the spot and charged baton to disperse the fighting groups. Policemen also beat up journalist Abu Bashar Akhand indiscriminately when he was performing his professional duty there. "The policemen beat me up with sticks although I introduced myself as a journalist," Bashar told this correspondent. The three injured were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital. Later JCD leader Ripon was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. Despite repeated attempts, no police officials in Magura could be reached for their comments as they did not receive phone calls made by this correspondent.
