Brick kiln owner sued in Ctg

Three cases were lodged against the owner of a brick kiln named “Modern Bricks” in Kumira in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong yesterday. The Department of Environment (DoE) filed a case with a Chittagong court against the kiln owner on charge of cutting hill and also fined him Tk 20 lakh as compensation, said DoE sources. Besides, police lodged two cases against six employees of the kiln including its owner, Abul Kalam Azad, on charges of lack of safety measures at work, which caused the death of kiln worker in a landslide, and recruiting Myanmar refugees, said police. Police also nabbed two Rohingyas -- Islam, 18, and Salil, 19 -- who were working at the kiln. On January 30, a worker of the kiln died and two other workers were injured in a landslide while they were cutting a hill to collect mud.
