Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said new generation must be prepared with modern education alongside developing high moral values and sense of patriotism to build a prosperous country. "Main objective of our education is to prepare our generation to build a modern Bangladesh," he told the 13th convocation ceremony of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital. The education minister attended the convocation as the representative of President Zillur Rahman. US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena and AIUB Vice Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, among others, addressed the convocation. Nahid said a university is not meant for merely collecting certificates based on prescribed curriculum. It must create an environment to nurture students to develop their full potentials and capacities as human beings in diverse areas of knowledge, which will help students to fit in any situation in their life, he said. Both public and private institutions must be paid highest attention to teach science education at lower and higher levels in such manner that science can be used for solving the problems of life and ensuring national development, he added. Describing the graduates as new leaders of Bangladesh, Mozena said, "Your country truly needs you; your country needs your strong leadership."
