BSF kills Indian man, tortures Bangladeshi

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday shot dead an Indian national on Satkhira border while picked up and tortured a youth of Thakurgaon yesterday. In Satkhira, the BSF men also injured a Bangladeshi citizen along Bhadiali border in Kalaroa upazila, reports a correspondent. The deceased was identified as Moin, 28, son of Abdul Hannan of Dorkanda village under Swarupnagar PS of 24 Parganas district in Paschimbanga, India. The injured was Shohag, 24, son of Rabiul Islam of Rajpur village. Local sources said BSF members at Darkanda Camp in 24 Parganas opened fire on a few cattle traders while they were coming to Bangladesh with cattle at about 10:30pm. Indian citizen Moin died on the spot while Bangladeshi national Shohag sustained injuries. Commanding officer of 38 Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion Nayeb Subedar Abdul Mannan said that the incident occurred at Darkanda, 200 yards inside the Indian territory from zero point of Bhadiali border of Satkhira. The BGB detained three Indian citizens, identified as Zahangir Sheikh, 35, and Abu Zafar of Swaruppur PS in 24 Parganas and Shakhauddin of Harispur in Maldah district, as they had crossed into Bangladesh illegally, he said. Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: BSF yesterday tortured and injured a Bangladeshi citizen on Ratnai border under Baliadangi upazila of the district. The victim was identified as Abdul Karim Miah, 30, son of Nizamuddin of Megdapara village under the upazila. BGB sources said, BSF members at Barabillah Camp caught and tortured Abdul Karim when he entered India through the border at about 6:30am to bring cattle. Later the BSF men left Karim near Ratnai border under the same upazila. BSF at a flag meeting, however, denied torturing Abdul Karim. Meanwhile, body of a Bangladeshi national was recovered from Mahananda River in Indian side of Tentulia border in Panchagarh on Monday. The deceased was identified as Md. Anarul Islam, 35, son of Nurul Islam of Bisrampur village under Baliadangi uapzila in Thakurgaon. Company Commander of Tentulia border outpost Subedar Md. Shajahan told this correspondent over cell phone that at about 11:00am, the BGB men saw a body on the river. Hearing the news, one Kamal Hossain of Bisrampur identified the body at noon. BSF members of Haftiagoch Camp handed the body over to Tentulia BGB through a flag meeting between the two border guards at about 2:30pm.
