Bring Faruque's killers to book
Rally in Tangail demands
Leaders and activists of district Awami League (AL) held a meeting in the town on Monday, demanding immediate arrest and trial of the killers of district unit leader Faruque Ahmed.
The meeting was held on the Shaheed Minar premises in the afternoon with acting president of Tangail district AL Alamgir Khan Menu in the chair.
The AL leaders at the meeting expressed their disappointment as local police failed to arrest any accused 10 days into the brutal killing.
Terming Faruque Ahmed a dedicated party leader as well as a brave freedom fighter, the AL leaders urged the police administration to arrest the killers of Faruque Ahmed and identify people behind the killing immediately.
They threatened to launch tougher agitation across the district in case of failure to bring the culprits to book.
They also demanded trial of killings of all AL leaders and activists that took place in the last few years.
Among others, lawmakers of Tangail-2, 3, 6, 7 and 8 Khandaker Asaduzzaman, Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, Khandakar Abdul Baten, Ekabbar Hossain and Shawkat Momen Shajahan respectively, Tangail district AL general secretary Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruque, joint secretary Ali Asgar Khan Daud and Tangail municipality mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan spoke at the rally.
Joint secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif and organising secretaries of central unit of AL AFM Bahauddin Nasim and Ahmad Hossain also addressed the meeting.
Former publicity secretary of Tangail district AL Faruque Ahmed was shot dead by unidentified assailants near his College Para residence on January 18 night.
