The mother of a patient yesterday sued two doctors of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for their alleged negligence in surgery. The two accused are Dr Shurman Ali and Dr GM Zakir Hossain, also practitioners in two private clinics. Delwara Begum, mother of 21-year-old Amirul Islam, lodged the case with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Mansur. The court ordered the officer in charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station to take legal action against the duo within 24 hours. According to Delwara, her son was admitted to a private medical centre on May 30, 2012 needing medical attention for haemorrhoids. She said during the surgery Dr Shurman left a needle inside Amirul. When Amirul again complained of pain he contacted Dr Zakir for a “follow-up operation”. Dr Ali admitted that the needle was left behind during the surgery but denied that he did it on purpose. He said it was accidental. However, Dr Zakir said he only removed pus from the infected part of the patient's body at another clinic in June last year.
