Schoolgirl murdered, dumped in pond

Police recovered the body of a 11-year old schoolgirl from a pond of a brick kiln at Aria village in Daulatpur upazila of the district on Friday afternoon. Police picked up three teenage boys who saw the body and informed the villagers. The girl was identified as Hasiara Khatun, daughter of Hashem Ali of the village. She was a student of class III at Aria Primary School. According to police, Mazeda Khatun, 32, was living with her only daughter Hasiara at the village after her husband Hashem deserted her in 2008. Mazeda was working as a labourer at Shotabdi Brick kiln owned by Hablu Mollah, president of Daulatpur upazila Jubo Dal. Like other days, Mazeda went to the brick kiln on Friday morning, leaving Hasiara alone at the house. Informed by locals at about 3.30pm we recovered the body, said Zahir Hossain, officer in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur police station. Assistant Police Super (Bheramara circle) Chokdar Abdul Halim said the girl was strangled. The body bore marks of torture in face and throat, he said. Sad Ahmed, member of Aria Union Parishad said that the girl was possibly killed after rape. Police picked up three boys on suspicion. They are Ratan, 12, son of Akram Hossain, Rajib Hossain, 15, son of Abdur Razzak and Abdus Salam, 14, son of Seraj Ali of Aria village. These boys saw the body in the pond. We have picked them up for interrogation, the OC said.
