BSF picks up 2 Yemeni citizens from border
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up two Yemen citizens, who are on a visit to Bangladesh with a Tablig team, from no-mans land at Sreerampur border of Patgram upazila under the district yesterday noon.
A Tablig team comprising 25 members, including 15 Yemen citizens and 10 Bangladeshis, came to Masterbari Jame Masjid, a mosque near Sreerampur border of Patgram upazila on Friday morning, said locals and mosque sources.
Two Yemeni members of the team -- Mohammad Ali, 55, and Mohammad Saleh, 45, went on a walk yesterday noon.
Unaware about the border situation, they went near the Indian barbed wire fence, crossing the no-mans land.
Immediately a patrol team of Pabishala BSF camp in Cooch Behar district of Paschimbanga caught and took them to the camp.
Maulana Lutfor Rahman, imam of Masterbari Jame Masjid, said, "Members of the Tablig team came to the mosque on Friday morning. I asked them not to go near the no-mans land. But the two Yemeni men went there, forgetting my message.
“We the local people are trying hard with the help of Border Guard Bangladesh to bring back the two foreigners from BSF camp but the BSF is yet to make any response. We are worried about their fate,†he said yesterday afternoon.
Admitting the matter, Major Ruhul Amin, second-in-command of Lalmonirhat 31 BGB Battalion, and said, "BGB sent a letter to BSF camp, asking them to return the two Yemen citizens at noon but BSF did not respond as of 5:30pm. I have already informed the higher authorities of the matter.â€
