Ruling party man held with phensidyl
Dipankar Raha Bappi, convener of Birganj upazila Swechchhasebak League, was arrested with 32 bottles of phensidyl on Saturday night.
Sources said, a police team, led by ATM Shahin Ahmed ASP (Birganj Circle) raided the party office in Birganj town at around 10.30pm and arrested him along with the phensidyl.
However, his other associates managed to escape, police said.
Police also seized a motorbike from the spot.
As the news spread in the upazila, people started celebration of the arrest by bringing out processions by chanting slogans, demanding exemplary punishment to the arrestee.
On the other hand, the senior party leaders started their lobby to free Bappi.
