BSRI scientists, workers on indefinite strike
Scientists and workers of Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) in the district went on an indefinite strike, demanding removal of the director general (DG) at the institute.
They called the strike at a meeting on the premises of the institute in the afternoon.
Addressing the meeting, the speakers said they went to the room of DG Md. Khairul Bashar to discuss their long-stalled demand of promotion for the staffs in the morning.
At this, the DG asked the on duty ansar to open fire on them, said SAK Eusuf Zai, director of BSRI.
Earlier, we started demonstration in July last year, demanding promotion for over 40 scientists and workers but the DG turned a deaf ear, said.
Contacted, the DG said he could not take any step for promotion of the staffs as a case was pending with a court.
He also refuted the allegation of issuing any order for opening fire.
