BSF tortures Bangladeshi boy

A Bangladeshi teenage boy was tortured allgedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday night on Nagorbhita border under Baliadangi upazila. The victim was identified as Mahmud, 19, son of Solaiman of Kashidanga village under the same upazila. His hands and legs were badly damaged. Operation Officer of 30, Thakurgaon Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Maj Kazi Alamgir Hossain told this correspondent over cell phone that BSF of Chaklagar camp caught Mahmud and tortured indiscriminately, leaving him seriously injured when he crossed the Indian border about 7:00pm. Later the BSF men left Mahmud on the Bangladesh side of the border. Local people rescue him from the border at about 8:30pm and took him to hospital. BGB yesterday sent a letter to BSF strongly protesting the indiscriminate torture on the teenage boy. Meanwhile, 75 cows of Bangladeshi farmers, seized by BSF from Mandumala area in the upazila on Thursday, were not returned till yesterday, reports UNB. Lt. Col. Towhidul Islam, commander of 30 BGB, said BSF members of Sonamoti Camp took away the cows on allegation of intrusion into Indian land. The six affected farmers alleged that the cows were grazing inside Bangladesh territory when the Indian border guards seized their domestic animals.
