Yunus urges Indian youth to create own politics

Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has urged the Indian youth to create their own politics with a new vision for the new generation to face the future challenges. "Don't remain under the spell of traditional politics, look to the future, the world is changing very fast, the youth have to redesign the institutions to face the new challenges," he said. Yunus said the Indian youth should not think only about India, but all the youth of the Saarc countries. The microcredit pioneer spoke in the “3rd Indian Student Parliament" event as the main speaker on Saturday in Indian state of Maharashtra, said a statement of Yunus Centre in Dhaka yesterday. The event was jointly organised by the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Government and the Education Ministry of India. The founder of Grameen Bank addressed the "Indian Student Parliament-Inspiring Youth for Strengthening Democracy" conclave with a participation of over 10,000 selected from among the elected student union leaders from all the states of India in the session on "Poverty: A Great Terror?" He urged the student parliament organisers to invite students of the Saarc countries from next year and said this interaction would help to solve many problems of the Saarc countries and the world. The banker to the poor said poverty is not created by the poor. "It is not their fault. Poverty is created by the system, the policies and certain institutions." Fourteen national presidents of students' wings of Indian main stream political parties like Congress, BJP, CPM, Jatio Somajbadi Party and VHP were awarded for their contribution in youth leadership. They received crests from Prof Yunus. Dr Mohan Dharia, a renowned Indian freedom fighter, thanked Prof Yunus for his inspiring speech and urged the students to follow his advices. Yunus also went to Nagpur to speak at the TECHLONS 2013 event and addressed a gathering of over 10,000 student microfinance borrowers there. He said the youth should not look for jobs only. "They should have a vision to create jobs for others." He also said solving problem through "social business" should be the aim of the youth.
