IU teachers demand security on campus
Most of the teachers of Islamic University (IU) continued to abstain from going to campus yesterday, protesting Saturday's BCL attack that left 30 teachers injured.
Campus sources said most of the students were also keeping away in fear of fresh trouble.
Only two classes -- one at Department of Statistics and the other at Finance and Banking were held with thin attendance of students yesterday.
No case, however, was filed on Saturday's incident, said office-in-charge of Islamic University police station.
Meanwhile, Islamic University Teachers' Association (IUTA) sent a letter to the vice-chancellor on Sunday asking him for steps to ensure security of the teachers on the campus.
"We asked the VC to ensure security of the teachers, but he did not heed to our call", IUTA secretary Dr. Iqbal Hossain said.
"Our key demand is punishment to those involved in attack on the meetings of teachers on November 19 and January 12," Professor Jahangir Alam, acting general secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad IU unit said.
VC Prof Abdul Hakim Sarkar said that a move was on to hold talks with all groups including teachers and students organisations.
"We have also formed a probe body to investigate Saturday's incident," he added.
