Girl's Murder in Mirpur
Autopsy finds attempted rape before strangulation
An autopsy yesterday revealed that an 11-year-old girl, found dead in a house at Jheelpar Bastee in the capital's Mirpur Section-1 on Saturday, was a victim of attempted rape and strangulation, said Dhaka Medical College morgue sources.
The house where Chandni's hanging body was found was rented by Khokon, driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, who was accused in a case filed by Chandni's mother Nargis Akhter with Shah Ali Police Station on Saturday.
Four others, local youths Ismail and Raju and two unidentified men, were also accused in the case of rape and murder.
Officer-in-Charge of Shah Ali Police Station, Selimuzzaman, said police were yet to arrest any suspect but picked up two female neighbours of Khokon -- Shanti and Sheuli -- for interrogation.
Chandni's father Md Babul said they were neighbours of Khokon for four months and shifted residence to the nearby Gudaraghat area on January 1.
Chandni used to live with her grandparents in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur district and came to Dhaka on December 22 to spend the holidays with her parents after appearing in her class three finals, said Babul.
Nargis said she had an argument with her only daughter on Saturday and Chandni went to meet her playmate, Khokon's seven-year-old daughter.
Khokon's neighbours said they saw Khokon alone at home when Chandni arrived and came to know of the murder when Khokon's daughter came home and screamed on seeing the hanging body.
“Today we are taking her to our village home for burial. I do not know who to pray for justice,†wept Babul at the morgue yesterday.
