IU pro-VC also goes
Professor M Kamal Uddin, pro-vice chancellor of Islamic University (IU), was finally relieved of his duties yesterday, in face of weeks of protests by teachers and students.
“We have received an official fax message from the ministry of education in this regard in the afternoon,†said IU registrar Moslem Uddin.
Chancellor of the university President Zillur Rahman issued the order, he said.
The step was taken in a bid to remove the stalemate that began at the university three and a half months ago.
On September 8, academic activities at the university came to a halt as the teachers of the university under the banner of Islamic University Teachers Association (IUTA) started agitation, demanding removal of the then vice-chancellor Prof M Alauddin, pro-vice chancellor Prof M Kamal Uddin and treasurer Prof Md Shahjahan Ali for their alleged involvement in irregularities in the recruitment of 132 teachers and officials on September 7.
Earlier, vice chancellor M Alauddin was removed from his post. Prof Abdul Hakim Sarkar of Dhaka University replaced him on December 27, said the registrar.
The university is now on winter vacation. It will open tomorrow.
