<i>Raj Punnah festival starts tomorrow</i>
Raj Punnah, a traditional festival of the Bomang tribe, begins in Bandarban tomorrow.
Sixteenth Bomang King K S Pru Chowdhury will inaugurate the five-day festival at Darbar Hall in the morning.
Raj Punnah is an annual revenue collection programme. Bomang Circle chief K S Pru Chowdhury will collect taxes from headmen and karbaris (businessmen) and the people of 109 mouzas under the Bomang circle.
On the opening day of Raj Punnah festival, the headmen of 109 mouzas and over 1,000 karbaris will pay their allegiance to the king with annual Jum tax and traditional gifts.
Hundreds of people from remote areas of the three hill districts and elsewhere in the country have started arriving at Bandarban to attend the festival.
A fair will be held at the field in front of the Bomang king's palace during the five-day Raj Punnah festival. Bomang people will put on display their traditional food items and organise colourful cultural programmes at the fair.
Local administration has taken all-out measures to maintain law and order during the festival and ensure security of the tourists.
