Main witness, also brother of victim poisoned to death in Sherpur

A juvenile boy, main witness in the sensational Marzina murder case, was poisoned to death allegedly by cohorts of the killers of his sister on Friday. The dead is Habibur, 17, son of Moksed Ali, 55, of Mojakanda village of Nokla upazila. Marzina Begum, 18, was poisoned to death after rape on July 2 following kidnap by a gang of local criminals. Habibur`s uncle Mazharul Islam and locals said, cohorts of Gulzar Hossain alias Gendu and Bulbul, who had a long-standing dispute over a piece of land with Moksed and his family, stormed into their rivals house on Friday. They caught Habibur and poured poison in his mouth after tying his hands and legs with rope when he was alone at home in the morning. Hearing his groaning, neighbours rushed in and rescued Habibur in critical condition and admitted him to Nokla upazila health complex. He was referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where he died at the hospital after admission. Moksed, his wife Jyotsna Begum, Mazharul and local people alleged that cohorts of Gendu and Bulbul of the village earlier kidnapped Habibur from Nokla town on September 16 and took him to Dhaka. However, he was rescued by police from the capital. The family members of Gendu and Bulbul and some local influential people were allegedly threatening Moksed and his family with dire consequences since the Marzina murder case was filed against the identified killers in July. Locals said, the aforesaid two and their accomplices kidnapped Marzina, Class IX student at Koiyakuri High School, from her house at the night of July 1. They poured poison in her mouth after gang rape and threw her in a pond at Mojakanda village. Locals rescued her from the pond in the morning and admitted her to the upazila health complex where she died in the afternoon. Later, police arrested Gendu, Rezaul Karim and another person in connection with the incident. Locals demanded arrest and punishment of the culprits. Contacted, police said they were investigating the killing of Habibur.
