Aggrieved locals attack clinics
Local people on Saturday ransacked a clinic at Ramdia Bazar in Kasiani upazila of Gopalganj district where a newborn died due to alleged negligence of the doctors, reports a correspondent.
Police arrested one Biswajit Das, a village doctor, Susanta Biswas and Rassel, staffs of the clinic, over the death.
Police said Shilpi Sarkar, wife of Taposh Sarkar of Ratoil village, gave birth to a baby through caesarian section at NR Clinic in the area five days ago.
The newborn suddenly fell sick on Friday night and was admitted to the clinic with respiratory problem.
After sometime, the child died as there was no oxygen cylinder at the clinic.
As the news spread, relatives of the newborn and locals smashed the clinic in the morning and beat one Mozaffar Hossain, a shareholder of the clinic.
On information, upazila nirbahi officer Abdul Latif Biswas rushed in and sealed off the clinic.
Away in Dinajpur, villagers and relatives of a patient, went on rampage at Parbatipur upazila health complex yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Alleging death of the patient due to neglect, they also blocked Phulbari-Parbatipur road for about three hours and demand removal of a doctor and nurses at the health complex.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Alim, 30, son of Saiful Islam of Haldibari village.
Family members said, Alim, who was admitted to the health complex with diarrhoea and cold related diseases on Thursday, died yesterday morning almost without treatment due to the negligence of the physician and nurses.
As the news spread, relatives of the deceased and locals swooped on the health complex, damaging its windowpanes and furniture, said Md Sawkat Osman, officer in-charge of Parbatipur police station.
Dr. Atiar Rahman, in-charge of the health complex, said that the condition of the patient started to deteriorate suddenly in the morning.
