Jute godown, six shops gutted in fire
A devastating fire brunt to ashes a huge quantity of jute products at the warehouse of a mill in Dighalia upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at the warehouse of Specialized Twin Mills in Chandanimahal area at 4.00pm, reports UNB.
Eight fire fighting units from Daulatpur, Khalishpur, Senhati, Boira and Tutpara of the district rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.
About 3.5 tonnes of jute thread were gutted in the fire causing of loss of around Tk 5 to 6 crore, said Mizanur Rahman, finished goods officer of the mill.
In Pabna, at least 6 shops were gutted at Kashinathpur market in Santhia upazila of the district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Police and fire fighters said that the fire originated from an electric short circuit.
Locals said that they saw the fire at the market at about 5.30 am and informed the fire fighters.
Bera fire station officer Md. Nurul Islam said the devastating fire gutted two cosmetic shops of Delwar and Zahid, a medicine shop of Didarul Islam, and workshops of Russel Hossain, steel furniture shop of Abdul Hakim and a plastic shop of Mohammed Ali at the market.
The fire damaged property worth Tk. 15 lakh, he said, adding fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in two hours of struggle.
