Woman, daughter die as train hits them
A woman and her four-year-old daughter were killed as a train ran them over on Joydevpur-Rajshahi route in Bhannara area of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district yesterday afternoon.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
Witnesses said, taking the girl on the lap, the woman, aged around 32, was standing on the railway tracks in the area at about 1:45pm.
When the Rajshahi bound train 'Nilshagar' was approaching, the nearby people raised a hue and cry asking them to move. As the woman did not do so, the train finally crushed them, killing them instantly.
Sub-inspector Azhar, in-charge of Joudevpur Railway Police, said the woman along with her daughter committed suicide under the wheels of the train in Gate No-12 area. Police recovered the bodies.
