8 Jamaat-Shibir men arrested, sent to jail

A court here on Saturday sent eight activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir to jail. They were arrested from Alamdanga and Jibonnagar upazilas on Friday and Saturday on charges of attacking policemen, vandalising and torching a fire service vehicle.. Assistant Superin-tendent of Police Nazmul Haque said, law enforcers arrested Jamaat leader Maulana Abdul Momin, 52, and activist Saiful Islam at Aylhashnagar village in Alamdanga upazila early Saturday. In another drive, police arrested Jamaat activist Abdur Rahman, 50, in Jibonnagar upazila at around 11:00am on the same day. Five Shibir activists were arrested from Shapla-kolipara at Jibonnagar upazila headquarters and nearby Senerhuda village on Friday night. The arrestees are Shariful, 32, Riyadh 18, Jobed Ali, 45, Ajibar, 48, and Jinarul Islam, 35. Police on Saturday produced the Jamaat-Shibir men before a court that sent them to jail.
