Registration of 45 NGOs cancelled
The government has cancelled registration of 45 non-government organisations (NGOs) under the Social Welfare Department in three upazilas of the district on charge of corruption and for not having activities at all.
Apart from this, cancellation of registration of 26 more NGOs, of which activities are being monitored, is also under process, sources said.
Sources at the district social welfare office said, necessary steps would be taken against the organisations that failed to submit reports of their activities in time.
According to the Social Welfare Department, the 45 NGOs which have been shut down include 30 in Alamdanga, 10 in Sadar and 5 in Jibannagar upazila of the district.
The announcement of the NGOs' closure came to the district social welfare office through a letter signed by Nasima Begum, director general of the Social Welfare Department.
