Jamaat man held in C'nawabganj

Police arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami activist from Club Super Market in the district town yesterday on charge of vandalising a BGB vehicle. The arrestee was identified as Kamal Uddin, 45, of Chandlai area in the town. Sub-Inspector (SI) Nurunnabi of Sadar police station said, a team arrested Kamal Uddin from his shop -- Tamanna Electronics at Club Super Market yesterday noon. Earlier, BGB and police filed two separate cases against 188 Jamaat and Shibir men on charge of vandalising a BGB vehicle and injuring its driver sepoy Amzad Hossain in Mohananda Bus Stand area of the town on Wednesday afternoon. Meanwhile, police arrested three Jamaat leaders and activist on Friday night on different charges in Shibganj and Nachole upazila. The arrestees are Monirul Islam, nayeb e ameer of Shibganj upazila unit Jamaat, Golam Azam, office secretary of the unit and Sharuzzaman, an activist of Nachole upazila. Monirul Islam and Golam Azam were arrested from Shibganj on charge of attacking policemen on September 16 in Shibganj Bazar area and Sharuzzaman was arrested from Nachole for alleged involvement in destructive activities. In Pirojpur, at least six policemen were injured in a clash with activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student from Islami Chhatra Shibir near Bus Stand area in the town on Friday afternoon. Police arrested three Jamaat men from the spot. Witnesses said activists of Jamaat-Shibir gathered at the Sayedee Foundation in the area after Juma prayers around 1:45pm and tried to take out a procession. A clash took place between Jamaat-Shibir activists and police when police tried to disperse the gathering, leaving six cops injured.
