2000 Jamaat, Shibir men sued in Dinajpur
At least 2,000 Jamaat and Shibir men have been sued in two separate cases yesterday in connection with Monday's clash at Ranirbandar village under Chirrirbandar upazila.
Police also arrested eight people till yesterday.
Md. Harisul Islam, inspector (Investigation) and Md. Masud Rana ASI of Chirirbandar police station filed those cases with their police station mentioning the names of 52 Jamaat and Shibir men while the rest remained unidentified.
In the cases, they stated that the Jamaat and Shibir men and their hired goons went on rampage at Ranirbandar village and attacked police, leaving 30 policemen including the OC of Chirirbandar injured.
Besides violating the law and order, the agitators also obstructed policemen from performing their duties, they said.
On Monday evening, Jamaat and Shibir activists locked in a violent clash with police which left Md. Mozahideen Hossain Biplob injured critically. Biplob later succumbed on the way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital the same night.
Earlier, two other cases were filed in Birganj and Khansama upazilas on Wednesday alleging violation of law and order during the daylong hartal, police said.
SI Biswanath Gupta of Birganj filed a case with speedy tribunal accusing 150 people while Md. Hafiz Sarker, a leader of Khansama upazila AL, filed the other case with the police station, accusing 100 people, identifying 17 of them.
