25 shops gutted
At least 25 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Bhangarhat Bazar in Kotalipara upazila on Sunday. Six shop owners also sustained burn injuries while trying to douse the flame. Ramesh Chandra Das, officer in-charge of Bhangarhat Police Investigation Centre, said the fire originated from a grocery shop at midnight and soon engulfed the adjoining shops. On information, Gopalganj fire service rushed in and extinguished the blaze after three hours of hectic efforts. Bimal Krishna Biswas, upazila chairman, claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 2 crore.
