A mobile court at Pabna yesterday awarded three months' rigorous imprisonment to five frauds including two retired sailors of the Navy on charge of taking money from the job seekers in the defence force. Earlier on Sunday night, intelligence men of the Navy and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the five people and seized huge fake documents and false chequebooks from them. The culprits are Md Kamruzzaman, 38, of Moshorhati village in Avoynagar upazila of Jessore, Md Sujal Mahamud, 45, of Per-Naogaon village in Naogaon, both retired sailors of the Navy, Shamsul Alam Sarkar, 35, of Bhangni village in Rangpur, Main Uddin Mondol Montu, 43, of Tarapur village in Shibganj of Chapainwabganj, and Md Joynal Abedin, 35 of Katakhali village in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna. Following a tip, the law enforcers raided Hotel Park in the district headquarters at about 11:00pm on Sunday and arrested them with fake documents with so-called signatures of officers, and false chequebooks, and fake certificates. “They were taking money from people upon false assurance of giving job and returning back the money if the job cannot be given,” Captain Masud, commanding officer of Rab-12 Pabna camp, told this correspondent. "They came to Pabna as the recruitment test for appointment of sailors in the Navy was held in Pabna Stadium on Monday. During their primary investigation, we came to know that the fraud group took money from job seekers, especially in defence forces, at different places of the country. In last week the same group collected Tk 20 lakh from the job seekers in Kushtia," Captain Masud said. The elite force produced the five arrestees to the mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md Moshiur Rahman Khan at about 8:00pm and the court sentenced the arrestees three months rigorous imprisonment each.
