Jubo Dal leader held, arms recovered
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a local Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader at Tona Bridge under Tona union in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.
Rab-8 sources said they also recovered a light gun and three bullets from Ziaul Hasan Hawladar, 40, vice-president of Kalakhali union unit Jubo Dal and member of the upazila unit Jubo Dal convening committee. He hails from Hularhat village of Kalakhali UP.
A Rab-8 officer, seeking anonymity, said that acting on a secret information that Ziaul Hassan was possessing illegal firearms, a team of the elite forces, led by ASP Masudul Anwar, raided Tona Bridge area and picked up the Jubo Dal leader on his way back home from a bazaar at 9:30pm.
The Rab officer claimed that after the confessional statement by Ziaul, they recovered the arms from his house at Hularhat village of neighbouring Kalakhali union.
Contacted, Gazi Nuruzzaman Babul, district unit BNP president and former MP from Pirojpur-1 constituency, told the news agency that the elite force held Ziaul from Tona bazaar where he went to buy medicine at 9:30pm.
But he denied the police claim that the Jubo Dal leader possessed any arms and ammo.
