Six months over, no headway yet in case

Although six months have passed, no headway has been made in the investigation into the attack on journalist ABM Fazlur Rahman. After the incident, police arrested three suspects from different areas of Sadar upazila, but they were later released. Unidentified assailants hacked the right arm of Fazlur Rahman, 48, staff reporter of Samakal, on Edward College campus on May 19. According to the victim, an anonymous caller rang him around 11:00am and asked him to go to the college campus for collecting information about irregularities in the institution. As he reached near the teacher's mess on the campus, a gang attacked him with machetes. They hacked Fazlur's right arm and left the scene. He was admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital and released from the hospital a month ago. “We are carefully investigating the case as it is one of the sensational cases of the district,†said Sub-Inspector Md Zia of Pabna Sadar Police Station. The SI said they have got the names of some people involved in the attack, but he declined to disclose their names for the sake of investigation. Pabna Press Club General Secretary Ahmed-ul-Haque Rana said police could not unearth the clues to the attack on journalist Fazlur Rahman even after six months of the incident. After the incident, State Minister for Home advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku assured the local journalists of taking immediate step to bring the culprits to book, but the real culprits are yet to be nabbed, Rana added.
