Two robbers were killed in a gunfight with law enforcers in Sharonkhola Range of the East Sundarbans yesterday morning. One of the two was identified as Faisal, 28, a member 'Mortuza Bahini'. The identity of another could not be known. Superintendent of Police Khandaker Rafiqul Islam and Major Sabbir Hossain Osmani, deputy commander of Rab-8, said police and Rab members, acting on a tip-off, raided the area. Sensing the presence of Rab and police personnel, a gang of robbers opened fire from a trawler, prompting the law enforcers retaliate, they said. Both sides traded around 200 rounds of bullets during the fight that continued for half an hour. As the robbers retreated, law enforcers found the bodies of the two gang members on the trawler. They also recovered 11 firearms and 20 bullets from the spot.
