BCL activists attack coaching centres, Shibir office

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men ransacked two coaching centres and an office of Islami Chhatra Shibir in the city on Tuesday night. Witnesses said, a procession, led by city AL convener Shawkat Hossain Hiron, also mayor of Barisal City Corporation (BCC), was brought out by city and district Awami League in the evening, protesting attack on the escort cars of the law minister in the capital on Tuesday. Among others, AL lawmaker Talukdar Md Yunus and activists Laskar Nurul Huq, Syed Anis, Anisuddin Shahid and Saidur Rahman Rintu, joined the programme. When the procession was parading different streets of the city, a group of BCL men led by city chief Jasimuddin ransacked Retina and Focus coaching centres in Battala and BM College areas and looted valuables from there. Later, they ransacked a local ward Shibir office in Kashipur area at around 9:00pm. They also forced to shut down Masum Computer, adjacent to AL office in Bibir Pukur area. Babul, cashier, and Saiful, peon of Retina coaching centre, were injured as the activists beat them up during the rampage. Later, BCL men handed the two over to police identifying them as Shibir activists. Shaheduzzaman, officer in-charge at Kotwali police station, said Babul and Saiful were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital. Despite repeated attempts, Jasimuddin was not available for his comment in this connection.
