Fifteen Jubo Dal leaders and activists have been sued on charge of extortion in the district. BCL activist Siddiqur Rahman filed the case with Patuakhali Police Station on Saturday night. District Jubo Dal Convener Moshiur Rahman Khan and Joint Convener Towfique Ali Khan Kabir are among the accused. In the case statement, Siddiqur stated that the accused demanded Tk two lakh from him a few days ago. “As I refused to give them the money, they intercepted me on Sanirvar Road in the town on Friday night and took away Tk 50,000 from me,” the BCL man further said. Terming the case false and baseless, district Jubo Dal Convener Moshiur said the BCL activist filed the case to harass them. Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, vice president of BNP central committee, and district BNP General Secretary MA Rob demanded withdrawal of the 'false' case against the Jubo Dal men. Our Pabna correspondent reported that BNP municipality unit General Secretary Siddikur Rahman Siddique was sent to jail yesterday as the court rejected his bail prayer in a case filed by his rival party men following a clash on September 24. Twenty-two leaders and activists of a faction of Pabna BNP appeared before the Speedy Trial Tribunal in the morning and sought bail in the case filed by Borzahan Biswas. Judge Abu Saleh Md Salauddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal granted bail to 21 of the 22 accused. He rejected Siddique's bail prayer and sent him to jail. Two factions of BNP district unit clashed in the town on September 24, leaving an activist dead. After the incident, both factions filed five cases with Sadar Police Station.
